-to position myself in the space and unable to travel to the Modern Fuel Gallery in advance,
for the making of this work, I visited their website, discovering their image of the facade, their namesake.

-the cut mf shadow becomes the base model for mf as a légaré painting.

-an aspect of the Modern Fuel/Gas building’s history (circa early 1800’s) and the model reminded me of the work of Joseph Légaré.
A Quebec artist working at a similar time period to that of the MF building‘s construction,
Légaré painted the iconic works, Fire in the Saint-Jean Quarter, Seen Looking Westward and L’Incendie du quartier Saint-Roch, both1845.
–and the beginning of a ten year involvement,
