Daily Studio Boxes
For a 10 month period, 2007/8, while I was participating in the Independent Studio Residency program at the Toronto School of Art I set a project to collect the studio detritus and at the end of each day’s work record them, placing the bits and pieces on the top or inside 3.5 x 3.5 inch craft paper and cardboard boxes. Some days there was more than one box. Each collection, once documented, was placed inside the box, and then stamped with the date. The boxes were shelved by month. The shelves were found, extruded, L shaped narrow aluminum sheets, mounted in a vertical row.
The ensuing assemblages and photographs became “sketches”, part of the studio process leading to other avenues of work.
